Leveraging IT to Create an Innovative, Collaborative, Student-Centric Curricula

Though less than a decade old, Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering, located in Needham, Mass., is already competing against the finest engineering schools in the country, including MIT and Stanford, for top-notch students. These students are ultra-tech savvy and rely very heavily on communications tools in the classroom and everywhere beyond. The college must meet their demands - including supporting the variety of tools and devices they arrive with - do so in a secure environment, and do it all with limited IT resources. Olin College has deployed a converged, end-to-end IP network that allows its students, faculty and staff to communicate in a collaborative fashion across the campus and into the broader community. The college has deployed Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 8600s, the Communication Server 1000, the Multimedia Communication Server (MCS) 5100 and a Nortel VPN Router solution.
