Managing Enterprise Services in Virtual Environment

Virtualization is becoming an increasingly commonplace commodity. The Service Lifecycle Management project at HP Labs is investigating how it can be applied to a more flexible provisioning of enterprise applications as a service by providing an automated delivery framework, enabling traditionally heavy-weight enterprise applications to become more agile. The work discussed in this paper presents a closed loop control framework that leverages the benefits of this new technology. It consists of abstract components responsible for measuring relevant data from the infrastructure as well as determining and effecting the most appropriate infrastructure changes to remedy possible adverse performance situations.
