Several trends are converging to make 10 Gbps security a prescient issue for enterprises. Hosted web applications are replacing legacy client-server applications, while at the same time attacks on web apps and databases and even client browsers are on the rise. And the introduction of cost-effective 10 Gbps networking has risen to enable even greater bandwidth for data - and attacks. The network core is more vulnerable than ever before. However, protecting the network core is very different from protecting the network perimeter. It requires Network Intrusion Protection System (NIPS) devices that are not only extremely fast, but also extremely accurate. They must catch attacks traversing 10 Gbps links while producing nearly zero false positives. And they must not degrade network performance or they will never be installed.
