MIMO Broadcasting for Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer

Wireless Energy Transfer (WET) is a promising technology to provide virtually perpetual energy supplies to wireless networks. Generally speaking, WET is implementable by either the "Near-field" ElectroMagnetic (EM) induction or the "Far-field" EM radiation, for short and long range applications, respectively. In this paper, the latter case in the particular form of radio signal enabled wireless power transmission is addressed. Since radio signals carry energy as well as information at the same time, a unified study on simultaneous wireless information and energy transfer is pursued. In particular, this paper studies a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) wireless broadcast system consisting of three nodes, in which one receiver harvests energy and another receiver decodes information separately from the signals sent by a common transmitter.
