Mobile Information Retrieval: A Survey
Source: EuroJournals
The domain of Mobile Information Retrieval is concerned with the indexing and retrieval of information such as text, graphics, animation, sound, speech, image, and video, and their possible combinations for use in mobile devices with wireless network connectivity. The proliferation of wireless and mobile devices such as personal digital assistants and mobile phones has created a large demand for mobile information content as well as effective mobile IR techniques. The need is for leveraging the existing data and adapting them for mobile phones. Mobile Information Retrieval is a subset of information retrieval but it poses new challenges for users as the environment and the technologies are dynamic, disconnected and restrictive. Hence the focus must be more on effectiveness rather than efficiency.
