Mobile Multimedia Streaming Improvements With Freeze-DCCP
Source: University of New South Wales
The authors propose to demonstrate a cross-layer enhancement of DCCP/TFRC which allows the transport to better handle network mobility handovers and adapt faster to the capacity available in the new network. They argue Freeze-DCCP is well suited for real-time traffic such as multimedia streaming. The mechanism has been implemented in the Linux kernel and the demonstration is run in a mobility testbed. Recent years have seen the increase of lightweight mobile devices with multiple wireless connectivity options. With the ever increasing computation power of these devices, more and more on-line services are now easily accessible on the go from these mobile terminals.
