Mobile Wireless Communications Past and Future Trends
Source: Roke Manor Research
Many mobile and wireless communications systems are currently in operation, and work is ongoing to standardise the systems of the future. The major international standardisation bodies for mobile communications are 3GPP, 3GPP2 and the IEEE. These organisations produce globally applicable standards within the scope set by the ITU. Regional organisations such as ETSI (Europe), ARIB (Japan) and ATIS (US) also participate in the standardisation process. 3GPP is responsible for the development and maintenance of the specifications for GSM, UMTS and LTE.
