Modulation-Assisted UEP-LDPC Codes in Image Transmission
Based on irregular UEP-LDPC codes, a modulation-assisted UEP scheme is proposed by using QPSK and 16QAM mapping, in order to achieve good tradeoff between reliability and spectrum efficiency. Simulation results show that the proposed coded-modulation scheme can improve the quality of the reconstruction image effectively in uncompressed images and Set Partitioning Into Hierarchical Trees (SPIHT) coded image transmission. In digital multimedia communication systems, some components of the bit stream are more important and error sensitive than others. Unequal Error Protection (UEP) technique is an effective solution for reducing performance degradation caused by these bits.
