In the global information society, the availability of Internet access has become critical for the world's citizens and organizations. Nevertheless, certain geographical areas and populations lag behind others in terms of Internet access, and a number of communities and governments around the world are actively seeking solutions to speed up the process of universal broadband Internet availability. Municipal Wireless Networks (MWNs) represent a new option for providing broadband access to the Internet. MWNs are needed because private sector Internet service providers tend to focus their services toward more financially attractive markets and consumers, and thus tend to neglect certain constituencies
