NetApp Space Reservation in SAN and iSCSI Environments White Paper
Source: Hewlett-Packard
All storage systems are not created equal. In the case of Network Appliance (NetApp), its operating system and file system were originally designed solely based on the requirements of Network Attached Storage (NAS). There is no clearer proof of this than NetApp's "Space reservation policy" in its Storage Area Network (SAN) and iSCSI block solutions - a liability not found in NetApp NAS environments. This white paper describes both this NetApp practice and the cost of ownership consequences to the customer.
