NETMATE: A Network Management Environment

The Network Management, Analysis, and Testing Environment (NETMATE) project proposes the design and implementation of a comprehensive data model to address the problems in distributed network management. The model emphasizes abstraction of information by defining generic network objects and relationships, and provides the framework for building facilities for monitoring these networks, analyzing their behavior, and displaying both network state and analyses to the user. In this paper, the primary issues in the construction of these facilities which guide the design of the NETMATE system are identified.
