Network Design Under Demand Uncertainty
Source: National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC)
A methodology for network design under demand uncertainty is presented. The uncertainty is caused by the dynamic nature of the IP-based traffic which is expected to be transported directly over the optical layer in the future. Thus, there is a need to incorporate the uncertainty into a design model explicitly. In this paper, an optimization model is developed to minimize the cost of routing and band-width provisioning. The optimization problem is formulated based on the Chance-Constrained Programming to capture both the demand variability and levels of uncertainty guarantee. This resource-saving approach could be applied to future network engineering techniques for handling demand uncertainty.
