Off Host Data Protection: Commvault SnapProtect and Dell EqualLogix PS Arrays

SnapProtect is designed to work in conjunction with the snapshot ability built into storage arrays such as Dell EqualLogic PS Series. On a Dell EqualLogic array, one can create local point-in-time snapshots and complete clones for testing, backup, and recovery operations. One can restore the data quickly and easily with snapshots and clones. SNAP uses a process called "Copy On Write" - where common blocks are shared between EqualLogic volumes and snapshots. The storage space for the snapshot data comes from the same storage pool as the volume. Clones are a complete copy of the volume and take the same space as a volume.
