In recent years, ad hoc networks, i.e. networks formed by diverse wireless-enabled devices, wishing to communicate without the need for an underlying infrastructure or a pre-defined contract between the users, are gaining momentum. Ad hoc networks guarantee networking operations a flexibility that wired networks cannot reach, for a number of reasons. For instance, wireless access may be implemented in different devices such as laptops, handheld computers, gaming stations, and other similar devices that are becoming part of the everyday life of each of one.
