Online Word Processing Applications for Collaboration, Peer Editing, and Teacher Review

Students need to work collaboratively. This often involves collaborative writing. Jere Brophy's research states that, "Students often benefit from working in pairs or small groups to construct understandings or help one another master skills." The National Council of Teacher's of English Guidelines Beliefs about Teaching of Writing says, "Writing instruction must also take into account that a good deal of workplace writing and other writing takes place in collaborative situations. Writers must learn to work effectively with one another." The use of online word processing applications allows student to easily work collaboratively - both synchronously and asynchronously. It also provides an improved process for peer review/peer editing over traditional methods.
