Open Source Vs. Closed Source (Proprietary) Software

The aim of this paper is to provide a greater understanding of the differences between open source and closed source (proprietary) software, and the advantages and disadvantages of each to enable a more informed decision making process when it comes to choosing between the two. The main issues that have been raised surrounding the debate include cost, service and support, innovation, usability, and security. As such, this paper will analyse open source and closed source software with reference to these issues.
