Source: Open-Xchange
The Open-Xchange Server 5 is an Open Source-based, full featured Messaging and Collaboration solution that runs on Linux enterprise distributions: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9. This paper describes why there is a demand for running Open-Xchange Server 5 on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10. It presents several alternative approaches to provide a supported environment for Open-Xchange Server 5 using virtualization technology. The paper shows the benefits of using virtualization such as cost savings through better server utilization, reduced power consumption, easier provisioning of servers and testing environments as well as the advantages for availability and disaster recovery. Finally it discusses the long term aspects of virtualization regarding the operation of different versions of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.
