Opening Unify DataServer to Windows and the Internet

Unify considered ODBC as the de facto connectivity standard when it wanted to make the Unify DataServer databases accessible to the Windows desktop. To be able to provide this functionality, Unify wanted to engage JDBC as the standard choice for provision of web-based data access. This was primarily because Unify wanted to provide a data access solution that met most standards. The data access solution should also be able to offer the client/server connectivity for its Unify DataServer database line. To be able to meet this set of requirements that Unify had thought, they needed a connectivity solution that was flexible so that it is able to handle client and server connectivity to Windows desktop as well as on the Internet. Unify was already using the SimbaEngine SDK to build an ODBC driver for Unify DataServer ELS. Therefore it was familiar with the SimbaEngine SDK to build ODBC drivers for the remaining databases in the Unify DataServer line. To meet the data access requirements of Unify, the SDK was customized for all databases in the Unify DataServer line. This led to the creation of Unify DBIntegrator. With the Unify DBIntegrator, customers of Unify DataServer are able to access and use data available in their databases for a number of new purposes. This increased the value the entire database provided to clients. Today, all Unify DataServer databases support ODBC interface and JDBC connectivity. They provide a variety of data access methods and are therefore able to provide high performance in different environments and on various configurations.
