Pillar Data Systems Case Study: Spare Backup Inc.
Source: Pillar Data Systems
Spare Backup helps consumers, home office users, and small to mid-sized businesses protect their computer data quickly, automatically, and cost-effectively. The company's flagship Spare Backup product is an online backup service that intelligently selects, secures, and stores files without any user intervention, automatically backing up documents, email, music, photos, and other PC files continuously. As a start-up, Spare Backup first worked with SMBs, but quickly began landing big contracts with large organizations, including Circuit City and Computer Associates. Spare Backup experienced increasing problems with their InfoTrend storage system, which eventually shut down completely. This led them to search for a much more reliable disk-based architecture. Complete job loss was unacceptable. Spare Backup reviewed offerings from several storage vendors including EMC and Pillar Data Systems, ultimately choosing Pillar. The company purchased a 160-terabyte mirrored Pillar Axiom SAN solution with SATA disk arrays, which Pillar and Incentra installed in a tight turn-around time of just six days. Pillar provided scalability, easy management and QoS technology. With Pillar, Spare Backup now experiences true 5-9's reliability of their storage infrastructure. Spare Backup now has the ability to run its system without any reduction or loss of disk drives and their infrastructure has been efficiently managed and monitored with the help of Incentra Solutions from day one and that is what any company needs.
