Platform Migration Using Transportable Tablespaces: Oracle Database 10g Release 2

Efficient and reliable methods of performing database maintenance - such as migrating a database to a new platform - have existed for many Oracle software versions. However, as maintenance windows continue to shrink and database sizes continue to grow, the importance placed on the time required to migrate a database to a more reliable or cost-effective platform has grown considerably. This white paper explains how to use the cross platform transportable tablespace feature in Oracle Database 10g Release 2 to migrate a database to a new platform that is using an endian format that is different from the source database platform.
