One of the main constraints for wireless sensor networks is its power budget, which creates a tradeoff on the amount of data the sensor network can transmit and the amount of time that it is functional. This project aims to analyze the power savings for data transmission through the use of data compression for the sake of a longer sensor lifetime. In addition, one will look into how lossy data compression of correlated data in wireless sensor networks can lower power consumption with the addition of distortion.
