Power Prediction of Application Software for Embedded System Based on PXA270 Processor

Since most of the embedded systems suffer from its restricted running environment, energy-efficient system design is important. The authors should consider the structural efficiency not only from the hardware perspective, but also from the software one. System spends different amount of energy according to what kinds of program is now running on that system. Different type of energy consumption model can be obtained due to the characteristic of embedded systems. In this paper, they estimate and analyze the energy consumption model of PXA270 processor by counting and analyzing the value of performance counter registers. This estimation method shows 10.39% error rates on average. This estimation method will assist the development process of more energy efficient applications.
