Principles to Guide the Development and Use of Effective Performance Measures

Although many companies perform well, only a few achieve truly superior performance. Most find their successes limited by a lack of the organizational alignment and cohesive action that superior performance requires. In many cases, the primary culprits that undermine performance are flawed measures and measurement-driven processes-core elements in the Human Performance Technology (HPT) model. This paper presents four principles by which executives can ensure their organizations' measurement systems and measurement-driven processes support organizational alignment and cohesive action.
