Privacy Issues of Biometric Security
Source: Bowie State University
Biometric systems are reliable because it is impossible to lose or forget biometric traits and they are difficult to copy, distribute, and misuse. Biometric technologies currently being used are fingerprints, facial recognition, face thermogram, hand geometry, retinal patterns, iris, signature, and speech. Biometric security is being used for computer systems, border security, and protection against identity theft. Privacy has become an issue as people fear the biometric data will be misused and the databases containing biometric data could be compromised and the information could be used for purposes other then those intended.
