QoS/QoE Techniques for IPTV Transmissions

Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) has recently gained momentum as one of the key applications in the telecommunications market. Most researchers believe that IPTV service represents a key opportunity for operators around the world to benefit from video delivery over IP networks. In this paper, the authors investigate the Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) techniques for IPTV transmissions. Particularly, the authors address two technical challenges in IPTV system: error concealment and channel zapping. To overcome the above challenges, the authors extend the function of the Set-Top Box (STB) and the home network gateway.
