Quality of Service Supporting Business-Critical Enterprise Applications
This paper focuses on enterprise requirements and opinions regarding Quality-of-Service (QoS) and Hierarchical QoS (H-QoS) parameters. Only enterprise views on QoS and H-QoS are discussed in this report; the authors will present service provider opinions on these topics in a separate report. Regarding QoS, what they refer to is the ability to apply certain performance parameters to individual traffic types across a MAN (Metro Area Network) or WAN (Wide Area Network). These parameters for the most part address latency, packet loss, jitter and availability, and based on the QoS parameters applied, can translate into various Class-of-Service (CoS) levels offered by a service provider.
