Reducing Backup Storage Requirements in SAP Non-Production Environments With EMC Disk Library Data Deduplication

Providing a comprehensive data protection solution in SAP environments can be a challenge. SAP production data is typically duplicated multiple times for use in non-production systems for Quality Assurance. Development, Testing, and other purposes. Just like the production systems, these systems also need to be protected with backup and recovery solutions. However, the number of copies of the data can put a severe strain on the backup storage infrastructure. In these situations, the benefits of data deduplication incorporated in the EMC Disk Library can dramatically reduce the amount of storage space required. This paper characterizes the data reduction benefits of the EMC Disk Library and provides information to help understand how this technology can be part of an SAP data protection solution.
