A producer of steel coils in the US was using a web-based inventory control system that worked on the Visual Studio 2005 development system. The team at the company was engaged in purchase of tones of steel and steel coils with different parameters. As business grew, the company wanted its team to be able to share coils yield, purchase and received reports efficiently. Towards this end, the steel coils producer required team members to undertake complex and data-intensive calculations and manipulations. The company decided to meet its objective with a reporting solution that was based on SQL Server 2005. The solution provided reporting services and SQL Server Analysis Services (OLAP) while advantage of their enhanced Analysis Services capabilities. With this solution, users would be able to generate detailed and flexible reports and undertake critical decisions on time. Because the company's inventory control system depends heavily on Information Technology, they wanted a solution that would be able to solve data reporting challenges that other divisions of the organization faced. The company picked the Microsoft SQL Server 2005, a next generation database technology. The SQL Server 2005 was chosen for its reporting functionality and because it was low on maintenance. The solution allowed the steel coils producer to manage large environments. It was able to provide improved data analysis and integration capabilities with the SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
