The promise of server virtualization is very attractive to companies of all sizes - leveraging this technology as a foundation to create a dynamic computing platform to deliver higher levels of service to the business is truly compelling. Additionally, it can dramatically reduce data center capital and operational costs as well as enable greater flexibility and higher availability. In order to better understand the motivation behind and perceived benefits of server virtualization, ESG surveyed IT organizations about their virtualization initiatives. The anticipated benefits include reduced costs, improved server backup processes, faster provisioning; simplified management; reduced power and cooling costs, lower floor space requirements, and higher levels of availability and disaster recovery.
