SCORE Helps Newspaper Entrepreneur Start The Presses
Source: SCORE
After spending few years as a freelance journalist in Houston, Kerry had moved to metropolitan St. Louis to be closer to her Midwest roots. In searching for a new writing opportunity, she found that while only the Mississippi River separated the city from its Illinois suburbs, there was a big gap in coverage about the area's business activities. As she gathered information, Kerry was told that she'd need a business plan. Kerry began working with Richard Rook SCORE counselor, a retired general contractor who had little experience with newspapers, but plenty of know-how about starting a viable business. Rook led Kerry through the process of creating a business plan, including three-year cash flow projections, insurance, distribution and marketing.
