Security Governance of Microsoft SharePoint Sites

Courion Corp. conducted a web-based survey in September 2008 of Microsoft SharePoint administrators and other IT personnel designed to uncover issues regarding the state of SharePoint security within organizations. This paper identified the issues with respect to SharePoint proliferation and governance at companies of all sizes in a range of industries like SharePoint sites are being deployed in large organizations without strong governance or consideration for security guidelines and best practices. The unauthorized migration of sensitive data onto SharePoint sites is a serious concern, especially given the number of instances where sensitive data was discovered on a site that shouldn't be there.
