Selfish Routing

There are, in theory at least, different ways for routers to find faster routes. According to Dr. Roughgarden and Dr. Tardos call ''Selfish routing'' might indeed speed up the journeys of some data packets. Routers could send test packets in different directions to determine the swiftest path to the destination just like some motorists listen to traffic reports on the radio in the hope of avoiding congested roads, the authors have seen an emergent trend to allow end hosts to choose routes themselves by using either source routing (e.g., Nimrod) or overlay routing (e.g., Detour or RON).
