In 2007, the Technology and Strategy Work Group of The Green Grid consortium established a system architecture Task Force to investigate and provide guidance on existing and emergent cooling technologies that can improve the efficiency of data center cooling architectures. This white paper provides insight on seven strategies - identified by the Task Force - that, when properly implemented, can have a significant effect on the cooling portion of the Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) metric1. The paper is intended to be used as a guide for individuals responsible for cooling architecture design and operations decisions, including facility engineers, data center architects, designers, managers, and facility owners.
