Solaris: The Carrier Grade Operating System

Telecommunications systems, both hardware and software components must provide Carrier Grade service with all that the term Carrier Grade implies. The world's first telecommunications systems certified to be NEBS Carrier Grade by Telcordia, then Bellcore, were the Sun Netra systems operating with Solaris. Those systems came directly in response to requests from the telecommunications industry for Sun to provide Carrier Grade systems to replace the proprietary systems that the telecommunications industry had developed thus far. Those and subsequent systems operating with Solaris on other platforms have become the foundation of telecommunications networks throughout the world.
