Spatial Expression Ambiguity Analysis for Manipulating an Animated Character in 3D Virtual Space

This paper deals with spatial expression ambiguity in a situation where users tell a character to move by saying, for example, "Please go to the right." The expression has two interpretations with regard to viewpoints: the user's one and the character's one. The authors' concern is to acquire notions for resolving this type of ambiguity to implement a spoken dialog system. In particular, they concentrate on the motion of the character in 3D virtual space. Their hypothesis is that users might easily change their viewpoint. After they analyzed the data, the significant difference shows that their hypothesis was valid; the number of users with an intrinsic viewpoint increased when the character was in motion.
