Standardizing and Streamlining BI Infrastructure for One of the World's Largest Pharma Companies
Source: Satyam Computer Services
A UK-based pharmaceutical company that focused on research and had a wide portfolio of pharmaceutical products was facing trouble with rising IT operational costs. The company had operations in 117 countries. The high IT costs were reflected in their diverse stack of BI/DW applications spread across multiple business units, the high licensing costs with each unit setting up individual IT environments, and non-reusability of process flow among Business Intelligence (BI) projects. Therefore, Mahindra Satyam was brought in to standardize and streamline BI infrastructure under one umbrella. Mahindra Satyam was able to assist the pharmaceutical company by establishing a BI & DW global shared services framework. This allowed Satyam Mahindra to consolidate and standardize services, processes, technologies and solution delivery. With all of this, they were also able to make optimum use of the shared services model. The framework was able to offer flexibility to the user because it was able to deliver BI and DW solutions. This included standardization on limited number of BI & DW tools, consolidation of BI & DW infrastructure, and optimization of software licenses and maintenance spend. Other solutions included deployment of a useful sourcing strategy in terms of the resources, contracts and licenses; delivery optimization of BI & DW services; and re-use of process and technology frameworks across projects. Mahindra Satyam also engaged a Governance Service Model that provided end-to-end BI & DW service delivery, adherence and consolidation of processes and tools, and stakeholder management.
