Strategic Options for Managing Intellectual Asset Flows in the Information Sector

This paper contributes to the growing body of management research on intellectual assets in several ways. The paper reviews and then demonstrates the applicability of a theoretical framework for examining intellectual asset flows to the specific case of information firms. The paper then proposes a framework that facilitates examination of strategic response options. Finally, the paper identifies a number of contingency considerations that make certain strategic responses more appropriate than others in certain contexts - these arguments are encapsulated in a number of specific propositions.
