C2A2S2E, the Center for Computer Applications in Aerospace Science and Engineering at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), is a globally recognized interdisciplinary center of excellence for numerical aircraft simulation. The company wanted to deploy a high-performance computing platform to support complex numerical flow simulations and maximize the number of processors that can be used simultaneously. The challenge was to ensure that the solution can be easily updated in three years. The C2A2S2E project uses the Sun Constellation System to perform complex numerical simulations. The system consists of 768 Sun Blades X6220 servers, each equipped with two Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors, providing a total of 6,144 CPU cores.
