A SWOT analysis is a tool that companies (and even individuals) use to identify their existing strengths and weaknesses (which are controlled internally), as well as opportunities and threats (which are external forces). Not only does this process get you to consider problem areas that you might not have thought of before, but it also allows you to see the effects of those problems.
