TAFE Tasmania Boosts Teaching Resources and Secures Network With New Microsoft Server
TAFE Tasmania is a state-run vocational and technical training organization, offering 450 courses at 16 campuses. It trains more than 36,000 students each year and has 1,500 full-time and part-time staff. Many teachers travel between campuses to deliver courses and require network access at multiple locations. Some use privately owned laptops, leaving the network vulnerable to malware. By 2007, TAFE Tasmania realized its Novell NetWare environment could not give staff consistent remote access to teaching resources while maintaining robust security. The organization joined Microsoft's Rapid Deployment Program for Windows Server 2008 to see if the new operating system could address the pressing issues of remote access and improved security.
