Next generation wireless technologies, such as Long Term Evolution (LTE) and IEEE 802.16e, specify Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) as their access method. In OFDMA based wireless networks the available bandwidth is divided into multiple orthogonal subcarriers, allowing users to transmit simultaneously through allocating different subsets of the available subcarriers to different users. The implied problem of subcarrier allocation and transmission power and rate distribution among users has been a prominent area of research over the past few years.
