The Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research Saves A$1 Million With Server Virtualization

Created in December 2007, the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR) develops policies and programs that drive knowledge creation, science and research, and improve Australia's international competitiveness. DIISR wanted to manage the transfer of Web servers from Canberra to a hosted environment in Sydney without any disruption to services and redevelop datacenter infrastructure to isolate test and development from production environment. VMware Infrastructure allowed the DIISR to temporarily host Web sites while shifting physical servers from Canberra to Sydney. It also allowed the department to redevelop its datacenter to support a growing application development team.
