Data center power consumption and heat generation were growing by 10 to 20 percent per year at one of inVentiv Health's core business segments. If the trend continued, the company would have to perform massive upgrades to its power and cooling infrastructure. At the same time, storage needs were tripling, necessitating a new storage solution. The company consolidated 50 servers onto 5 Dell PowerEdge servers running VMware ESX Server to enable virtualization. To handle storage needs, inVentiv purchased Dell/EMC storage arrays to help consolidate its storage volume in the smallest possible footprint. To continue reducing its impact on the environment, the company recycled 150 CRT monitors using Dell Asset Recovery & Recycling Services, replacing them with Dell flat panel monitors.
