In a study by Wharton Professor of Management Robert House, the effectiveness of top-level managers was measured under both stable and uncertain market conditions. House and his colleagues examined a possible link between performance of the individual and that of the organization. They concluded that managerial impact is greatest during challenging market conditions. The more uncertainty faced by an organization, the greater the influence of its leaders' decisions.
