Business process modeling is a discipline in and of itself. Business analysts typically perform the duties involved in it: defining and outlining business practices, processes, information flows, data stores, and systems. In other words, process models essentially lump processes of the same type into a model so that one can see how those processes can work together. When one understands the activities the organization typically performs and the kind of information it needs to successfully perform those activities, one is in a much better position to analyze how the organization's processes work together overall.
