Manipal University, based in Karnataka State in India, provides education to 12,000 students each year. It was in the midst of moving its Line-Of-Business (LOB) applications to a browser-based format and wanted to strengthen security for financial, human resources, medical, and other vital processes, while simplifying application management and improving productivity. The university deployed Windows Internet Explorer 7 on 2,500 desktop computers and 6,500 laptop computers and uses it as the interface for all its LOB applications. Students, staff, and faculty use tabbed browsing and print preview features to get work done more quickly. Calls to the help desk have decreased significantly, thanks to the enhanced security of LOB transactions. IT administrators save time by enforcing browser settings centrally using Active Directory Domain Services.
