Transmission over wireless channels is severely affected by multi-path propagation. To model this phenomenon in wireless communications, different statistical models have been proposed and fading is considered as a stochastic process with some distributions including Rayleigh, Rician, lognormal, and Nakagami. In particular, if there are multiple indirect paths between transmitter and receiver, with no distinct dominant path, Rayleigh fading is the result according to the central limit theorem. If there is a dominant Line-Of-Sight (LOS) component, the Rician distribution is appropriate.
