Using Web Analytics With Microsoft Silverlight
Source: Microsoft
Silverlight is Microsoft's cross-platform browser plug-in that allows the creation of interactive web applications that employ high quality streaming media, vector graphics, images, and animation thus, making it compatible with web analytics services such as WebTrends On Demand, Omniture SiteCatalyst, Google Analytics, and Microsoft AdCenter Analytics. These services collect data on web usage behavior and allow businesses to measure how websites perform against business goals and easily integrate with Silverlight because JavaScript page tags are used to identify and quantify web usage behavior. Silverlight addresses a lacuna that exists today in web development workflow where the design intent of graphics designers and interaction designers cannot be faithfully communicated to and crafted by the web developers. Companies that aim at optimum returns on their investment, building better relationships with customers, and increasing their value over time have already been using the continuously-evolving web analytics tool. Usage of RIAs by websites leads to enhanced user experience and therefore, understanding the behavior of those users becomes important. Since the architecture of Silverlight makes it possible to integrate web analytics into the web development workflow, companies that use Silverlight are more likely to understand and adapt to user behavior on their entire site. Silverlight's separation of design in XAML and application logic in JavaScript makes it possible for web developers to easily adapt and change their designs, testing their changes against analytical data.
