Virtualization of the Canadian Space Agency's Servers: Mission Accomplished, With 40% Savings!
Source: Omega Technologies
The Canadian Space Agency, a federal organization based in Saint-Hubert, Quebec, is responsible for, among other things, developing the Canadian space shuttle arm - the Canadarm 2, and providing its support during missions on the International Space Station, as well as the RADARSAT-1 and -2 satellites. Recognized worldwide, the Canadarm technology has been essential on 50 space missions in which over 500 astronauts took part. The Space Agency monitored the evolution of VMware, and after two years of use in production on 15 virtual VMware GSX machines, without any crashes (of VMware), the infrastructure team became convinced of the product's robustness and security as well as the potential savings linked to virtualization.
