Wanted: Leader? Manager? Both?

Leadership is critical to organizations wishing to innovate and transform. Management is critical to the effective and efficient utilization of an organizations' resources. Both are crucial to organizations intending to compete successfully, survive and grow in the globally competitive economy. This paper examines the fine line between leadership and management. It will demonstrate that leadership is subsumed within management but that management is not subsumed necessarily within leadership, and that effective individuals exhibit a delicate balance of both leadership and management. Such a balance is essential for leaders of business, social and political organizations and movements in an environment of turmoil and uncertainty.
